One of world’s oldest poker games is considered to be 7-card stud and you can find this game played at casino tables around the world and online as well. It is a fun game that is easy to learn. All of the players get two cards and these are dealt face down. These cards are called the hole cards. The next card you will be dealt will be face up and this is referred to as the door card. The dealer will then deal three cards face up to all of the players and finally, the last card dealt is face down. The winner who gets the pot must hold the highest 5 card hand of poker. It seems simple, and it is, but there are a few things you will need to know before you are ready to play this game for money.
Antes
If you are going to play a hand of 7-card poker, you will have to place the bet referred to as the ante. These are to be incentives for a player to stay in the hand as well as to build the pot. There are defined wagers that set the amount of the raises and bets during each round. When you play 7-card stud online you will find the stakes clearly defined so you can find the table wager that is most attractive to you as well as you wallet. There is a small stake that must be bet during the first two rounds, and the large stake wager is used for the three rounds that follow. If you see wagers posted at $1/$5, you will have to bet and raise exactly $1 and when you bet the final three rounds, all bets and raises must be exactly $5.
Each of the rounds of betting has one wager and three raises maximum. This is considered the cap. Playing 7-Card Stud
The first two cards that you will be dealt are called the pocket. These are dealt face down to each of the participating players. The dealer will then give you one card, referred to as the door. The dealer will deal this card face up. Now the first of the betting rounds is ready to begin. Whichever player is showing the lowest card has to put the “bring in” to the pot. This first wager is mandatory and usually consists of ˝ the amount of the smallest stake. If two of the players have the same door cards showing, the suits of the cards are ranked to decide which player has the weakest card. The suits are ranked in order of the strongest to the weakest. They are; spades, hearts, diamonds and then clubs. The “bring in” is used like the ante, to encourage the players to stay in the hand and to build up the total amount in the pot.
If you intend to stay in the hand, you must raise, fold or call the "bring in" wager. Whoever is sitting at the “bring in” bettor’s left hand side starts the wagering and the betting continues clockwise around the table. The betting can be a bit confusing at the start, but as you find more out about the game, it will come more easily. There are a few stages to the game and these are usually referred to as streets, the river and the showdown. The only way you will really understand the game is to play it. Be sure you don’t play for very high wagers when you are learning. Sit at tables that have low minimums and maximums until you have mastered the game a bit more.
